The main reason is that the Alps MD printers are the only consumer priced printers that can print using white ink, as well as metallic
and foil gold and silver. While at first, this may seem to be a rather odd requirement (After all, paper is white, isn't it?), it is
a useful atribute for many reasons, as we will show.
The MD range of printers are used extensively by modellers wanting to produce custom waterslide decals for their models, or for
sale to other modellers. Most markings for military, railway and other models incorporate white. While waterslide decal paper with
white film is available, it's not that easy to acurately cut the markings out, especially in the smaller scales. It's a lot easier
to just print what you want on clear decal film using white and other colour inks to achieve the desired result.
The printers are also useful for printing small runs of fancy items requiring gold or silver foils, for example, wedding
invitations and suchlike. One of our customers restores old guitars, and finds the ability to print gold very useful.
